DoorWay to Renewal | Art for Self-Expression | Book of Imagery | Through the Looking Glass Preferred process | Schedule
Give yourself the gift of time; time to breathe, to reflect, to focus, to tap your creativity, to escape for just awhile.
Self-reflection and exploration are emphasized in all offerings. No previous experience as a visual artist is needed ; all are welcome. Offerings include fun, spontaneous processes that tap into the imagination to inspire creativity and give voice to what lies within.
All sessions will begin with participants gathering in a safe and welcoming environment. Journaling will be used to release the inner dialogue of the mind and focus attention. Each participant will be offered personal guidance in color, design and form while exploring and working out concepts for individual art pieces.
By using our hands, our eyes and our intuitive understanding of our world, we can freely experiment to develop our personal works of art. —Debra Hille
- full day retreat
- designed specifically for modern day "medicine women" -- women working in education, non-profit organizations, medicine and the healing arts.
In this retreat, the visual arts are used to assist women in honoring their creativity; in self-reflection; in accessing their full potential; in recognizing and acknowledging their genuine hungers; and in making self-care a priority.
In addition to creating a meaningful visual, the "DoorWay" serves as a visual reminder of how to renew your personal sense of well-being.
The objectives? This day of creative opportunity will help you:
- reconnect with your inner spirit and one another
- renew your potential for self-healing as you return to doing your life's good work
- leave the retreat empowered by the experience
- participants will leave feeling revitalized

- 3-hour workshop
- emphasizing the art of personal expression by creating a mixed-media collage
Beginning with journaling and dialogue, participants will be invited to relax, focus their energy, and gather their thoughts. Guided by personal writings and conversations, participants will create their own mixed-media work of art using materials that delight and inspire them. The workshop concludes with open dialogue providing each woman an opportunity to share her experience and process.

- 2-hour workshop
- create your very own Book of Imagery -- a collection of photos, images, and words that inspires you.
This process helps you get in touch with your authentic self, often by identifying previously unacknowledged patterns. Debra's insightful collage process and her gift of assisting others with self-discovery, helps participants create beautiful journals using everyday materials: magazines, postcards, poems, and photos.
For many participants, this is the beginning of an ongoing project. Celebrate you inner muse with a Book of Imagery that will allow you to continually revisit with her.

Through the Looking Glass - Creating a Self-Portrait
- 6-week series of 2-hour classes
- explore your life while delving into ways to visually express yourself
This series offers women a liberating and exciting experience, both artistically and personally. Self-portraits may be created from a range of different media and in two or three dimensions. Participants may choose to use traditional portrait media (painting or drawing), or nontraditional media (fiber, photography, collage, etc.). Styles may be realistic, expressive, or abstract.
The 6-week format allows for time to reflect and ask yourself, "What do I see in the looking glass and what lies beyond, within me?"
Most women find the process of creating their own self-portraits, along with the shared conversations with others, to be as personally significant as the final product.

Why I Use Collage: The creation of a collage is the process of choice in my sessions as it is direct; results are achieved quickly and provide immediate feedback to the artist. Collage describes an image that has been created from a combination of materials. Collage dates back more than one thousand years ago to Japan. It wasn't until the industrial revolution of the 18 th and 19 th centuries that collage became a popular medium. In 20 th century Paris artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque's use of the collage process elevated the medium to the widely appreciated art form it is today.

Art has been and continues to be a very important part of my personal path to healing and thriving. It is the creative process that gives voice to what lies deep within me. My mission is to use the empowering nature of the creative process to inspire women to connect with their own creativity and use that creativity for life reflection, growth and self-healing. —Debra Hille
